The Faculty Council of the Faculty of Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and Mathematics has elected Prof. Dr.-Ing. Henning Meschede as the new Head of the Institute of Electrical Engineering. The election took place on 14 September 2026. In his new role, which he will take up in October 2026, he will play a central part in the further development of the Institute in the areas of research, teaching and academic self-governance.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Henning Meschede has been Professor of Energy Systems Engineering at Paderborn University since October 2020. The establishment of this research group has further strengthened the Institute of Electrical Engineering’s research and teaching, particularly in the field of sustainable and decentralised energy systems

His academic work focuses on decentralised, sustainable energy generation and distribution, as well as the analysis of energy demand. Particular emphasis is placed on regional renewable energy systems, industrial and commercial sector coupling concepts, and the analysis of energy data. In this work, Prof. Meschede pursues an explicitly interdisciplinary approach and works at the interfaces with, amongst others, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, and the natural, economic and social sciences.

We warmly congratulate Prof. Dr.-Ing. Henning Meschede on his election and wish him every success and satisfaction in his new role, as well as a fruitful collaboration with all his colleagues.
