Research

At the Institute of Mathematics, our research spans from fundamental mathematical studies to interdisciplinary collaboration. In the CRC TRR 358 project, Integral Structures in Geometry and Representation Theory, mathematicians from analysis and algebra work across traditional disciplinary boundaries. Additionally, our research focuses on stochastics, applied mathematics, and close partnerships with industry. We also place strong emphasis on mathematics education, integrating it into the Institute through collaborative research projects between mathematics education specialists and mathematicians.

"Shanghai subject ranking": Institute of Mathematics performs very well

 |  M-Nachrichten

In the latest edition of the renowned "Global Ranking of Academic Subjects" (GRAS), also known as the "Shanghai Subject Ranking", the Department of Mathematics at Paderborn University has once again performed very well. The results are based on five indicators that assess the performance of specific subject areas. This year, 5,000 universities from 104 countries and regions were compared with each other and 1,900 universities were ranked in 55 different subject areas. The Institute of Mathematics at Paderborn University was ranked 10th to 13th nationally and 151st to 200th worldwide, confirming the Institute of Mathematics' top positions from previous years.

The evaluation takes into account the number of publications, citations, publications in top journals, international publications as well as prizes and awards received by researchers at the respective institution. "Paderborn University's results in mathematics are excellent and have improved compared to previous years, not only nationally but also internationally," says Prof Dr Torsten Meier, Vice President for International Relations at Paderborn University.
