The study group “Variations on Character Varieties” is a joint initiative by MPI Leipzig, Leipzig University, and Paderborn University. The study group investigates different definitions and topologies of character varieties, focusing on key subspaces and instructive examples. We contrast “flexible” cases, like discrete and faithful or quasi-Fuchsian representations, with “rigid” ones that may consist of only a few points, and also discuss…
From September 8 - 10, the conference Women in Harmonic Analysis took place in Paderborn. The conference was especially addressed to female mathematicians working in the broad field of harmonic analysis, both commutative and non-commutative, and the speakers should all be female.Nevertheless, anyone interested was welcome to attend!

From September 1–5, 2025, the Lie Theory, Spectra, and Dynamics conference took place in Paderborn. The event brought together researchers to explore recent advances in Lie theory, spectral theory, and dynamical systems on symmetric and homogeneous spaces. Participants engaged with diverse perspectives, ranging from representation theory to microlocal analysis, and connected with experts from across these interconnected fields.

This week the first release v1.0.0 of the open source Python package "PyZEAL" was published. The project is being developed by Philipp Schütte as part of his PhD in the research group spectral analysis and deals with the root finding problem for holomorphic functions. Additional information on how to obtain the package or contribute to it can be found here.
The journal "Inventiones Mathematicae" is considered as one of the world leading journals and it is considered as a special highlight if the work of a young scientist is published in such a journal. This has been recently achieved by Benjamin Delarue, a postdoc of the group in his article "The Ruelle zeta function at zero for nealy hyperbolic 3-manifolds" that he co-authored with Mihajlo Cekic (Uni Zürich), Semyon Dyatlov (MIT) and Gabriel…
