Abstract: In this talk I will give an introduction to the geometry of Berkovich analytic spaces, focussing on the case of curves and, in particular, the case of the projective line. The talk will be heavily based on examples and I will make an effort for most of this talk to be accessible with minimal prerequisites from algebraic geometry.
