Title:
An iterative approach to fluid-rigid body interactions

Abstract:
A classical problem in fluid mechanics is determining the motion of a rigid body immersed in a viscous fluid. The coupling between the motion of the rigid body and the fluid domain yields a moving boundary problem involving the Navier-Stokes equations. In this talk we present a new approach to the existence of strong solutions to this moving boundary problem (in three dimensions), via a novel iterative approach. This approach is then used to design a numerical method, and some basic numerical results are demonstrated. This talk is based on joint work with C. M. Elliott (University of Warwick).
