On Friday, July 4, 2025, more than 200 graduates of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Mathematics (EIM) were given a ceremonial farewell in lecture hall L1 at Paderborn University.

The Dean, Prof. Dr. Jürgen Klüners, welcomed graduates, their families, professors and guests of honor and looked back on the graduates' time at university. The President of the University, Prof. Dr. Matthias Bauer, then gave a motivating address to the guests. A special highlight was the keynote speech by Professor Sir John Aston (University of Cambridge), who joined in via Zoom and provided fascinating insights into the scientific exchange between mathematics and society. This year's speech by the graduates was received emotionally. Lucas Ostermann, himself a Master's graduate in computer science, gave an impressive account of his study experiences and the challenges young people are currently facing.

A ceremonial highlight was the presentation of the certificates to the Bachelor's and Master's graduates - moderated by Dr. Markus Holt, Managing Director of the Faculty. Six graduates were specially honored for their outstanding academic achievements. At the Institute of Electrical Engineering & Information Technology, Oliver Josef Schweins received the award for the best Bachelor's student achievement, while Jakob Erwin Kienegger received the award in the Master's program. At the Institute of Computer Science, Fynn Luca Fromme received the award in the Bachelor's program and Matthias Artmann in the Master's program. At the Institute of Mathematics, David Noah Stamm received the award for the Bachelor's degree course and Sascha Joachim Holl for the Master's degree course. The prizes were made possible by the support of the following sponsors: dSPACE GmbH, Phoenix Contact GmbH, S&N Invent GmbH, Wöhler Technik GmbH and achelos GmbH. The faculty would like to express its sincere thanks for this commitment.

The Dean of Studies, Prof. Dr. Katrin Temmen, then awarded the Weierstrass Teaching Prize sponsored by the faculty. Prof. Dr. Thomas Richthammer was awarded in the “Teacher” category and Louisa Hoffmann in the “Exercise Group Leader” category. The award recognizes outstanding commitment to teaching and is supported by the alumni association “Die Matiker e. V.”.

Marlena Müller and Hannes Geilhorn, as student representatives, gave a personal speech on behalf of the students and thanked their dedicated fellow students.

This year's musical accompaniment was provided by the duo WEEKENDER. The ceremony ended with a reception and a group photo of the graduates.

A review of the event can be seen in the form of an aftermovie on the EIM faculty's YouTube channel.
