Three minutes, four slides, exciting research: The first EIM PhD Pitch took place on 16 July. At this event, nine PhD students presented their doctoral research in ultra-short talks and answered questions from the audience. The projects showcased the full breadth of research within the faculty: The projects range from error analyses in the numerical solution of partial differential equations to the question of how pupils’ conceptions of quantum cryptography can be derived from educational escape games. Other PhD projects investigate, for example, how FPGAs can be used to accelerate applications in robotics, or how small languages with complex symbolic structures can be reliably captured by large language models. Prof. Dr Marco Platzner, the faculty’s Dean of Research, who chaired the event, drew an overwhelmingly positive conclusion together with the audience: “We’ve gained some truly fascinating insights into a wide variety of research projects – we’ll definitely be doing this again; today’s first pitch is the start of a tradition, of that I’m certain.”
