Abstract: Small eigenvalues play an important role in geometric counting and dynamical problems. In this talk, I will begin by giving a brief review of the history of some of these problems. Later, I will discuss the recent renewed interest in these eigenvalues, relating to their stability under finite Riemannian coverings.
