Titel: Taming infinities
Abstract: Some physical and mathematical theories have the unfortunate feature that if one takes them at face value, many quantities of interest appear to be infinite! Various techniques, usually going under the common name of “renormalisation” have been developed over the years to address this, allowing mathematicians and physicists to tame these infinities. We will tip our toes into some of the mathematical aspects of these techniques and we will see how they have recently been used to make precise analytical statements about the solutions of some equations whose meaning was not even clear until now

Titel: Felix Hausdorff als Philosoph und Literat
Abstract: Felix Hausdorff (1868--1942) war ein sehr vielseitiger Mathematiker. Er begründete die allgemeine Topologie als eigenständige mathematische Disziplin und leistete bedeutende Beiträge zur allgemeinen und deskriptiven Mengenlehre, zur Maßtheorie, Funktionalanalysis, Algebra, Wahrscheinlichkeitstheorie und Versicherungsmathematik.
Neben der Mathematik hatte er in jungen Jahren eine zweite Leidenschaft - Philosophie und Literatur. Unter dem Pseudonym Paul Mongré publizierte er einen Aphorismenband, ein erkenntniskritisches Buch, einen Gedichtband, ein recht erfolgreiches Theaterstück und 16 Essays, zumeist in führenden literarischen Zeitschriften. Dieser Teil seines Gesamtwerkes, dem in der Hausdorff-Edition die umfangreichen Bände VII und VIII gewidmet sind, soll im Vortrag in Umrissen vorgestellt werden.
