PhD & Postdoc coffee/tea seminar
This PhD & Postdoc research seminar at Paderborn University is devoted to current research questions as well as general topics in harmonic and spectral analysis. It offers a cozy, informal atmosphere, where postdocs and PhD students can discuss ideas and share insights over coffee or tea.
Time and place for the winter term 26/27 are not fixed yet.
Note that this will not be a regular weekly seminar; instead, we’ll meet whenever there’s an interesting topic to discuss.
Organizers:
- Daniel Kahl (Uni Paderborn)
- Lukas Langen (Uni Paderborn)
- Luca Wasmuth (Uni Paderborn)
Program
| 10.7.26 | Luca Wasmuth (Uni Paderborn) |
| Title: | Geodesic Flow I |
| Abstract: | We introduce geodesics on a Riemannian manifold, give some examples and introduce the concept of the geodesic flow. |
| 14.07.26 | Janina Schaa (Uni Paderborn) |
| Title: | Adaptive high gain control |
| 22.07.26 | Stefan Kohlmeier (Uni Paderborn) |
| Title: | An Introduction to Statistical Learning |
| Abstract: | We introduce fundamental concepts of statistical learning, including prediction risk, empirical risk minimisation, and ordinary least squares. We also discuss upper and lower bounds for the prediction error in linear regression. The examples are concrete and, for precisely this reason, nowadays relevant to both theory and practice. |

| Title: | Ruelle-Taylor resonances on compact quotients of buildings |
| Abstract: | Ruelle-Taylor resonances play an important role in the study of dynamical systems. In this talk I will motivate the notion of Ruelle resonances and explain how the theory can be transferred to Weyl chamber flows on compact quotients of Euclidean buildings. |

| Title: | A Brief Introduction to Spectral Theory |
| Abstract: | We give a very basic introduction to some elementary concepts of spectral theory, along with an overview over some interesting and/or useful results. |

| Title: | Spectra of Operator Semigroups |
